PMD warns of thunderstorms, strong winds from may 27 to may 31

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and rain across various regions of Pakistan from May 27 to May 31. This forecast highlights the potential for gusty winds, isolated heavy rainfall, and hailstorms, particularly in upper and central parts of the country.

Weather System Overview

According to the PMD, moist currents are continuously moving into these areas, and a westerly weather system is expected to enter northern Pakistan on May 28, triggering widespread weather activity. This system will bring intermittent rain and thunderstorms, affecting multiple provinces and cities.

Regions Expected to Be Affected

The PMD has identified several areas that will experience significant weather activity during this period:

  • Azad Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan: Widespread thunderstorms and strong winds.

  • Islamabad & Rawalpindi: Heavy rainfall with gusty winds.

  • Punjab: Cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Sargodha, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura will experience thunderstorms.

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Areas such as Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swat, and Mansehraa will see strong winds and rain.

  • Balochistan & South Punjab: Light to moderate rain expected in Multan, Bahawalpur, Zhob, and Dhera Ghazi Khan.

Potential Risks & Precautions

The PMD has warned that windstorms, dust-thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may cause damage to electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels. Authorities have advised farmers to manage their crop-related activities accordingly and urged travelers and tourists to take precautionary measures.

Government & Public Response

Relevant authorities have been directed to stay alert and take preventive measures to avoid disruptions or hazards. The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly and flood-prone areas.

This weather system is expected to subside by May 31, but intermittent showers may continue in some regions. Stay updated with official PMD alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this active weather period.
